Gone To Rest

An aged couple, Robert and Polly Heape, have gone to that rest that remains for the people of God. They were born in York County, Penn. Robert Heape March 8th, 1817, and Polly Rohrbaugh May 6, 1822. They removed from there with their parents to Richland County, Ohio, where they were united in the holy bonds of matrimony, January 16, 1840. They came from Ohio to Perry County, IL in 1841, and settled on the same farm where they were living at the time of their death.

The married life of this couple was most congenial and happy. To them were born nine children; Levi died wen two years old, Samuel fell in the battle of Vicksburg, * the rest are married and live in Perry and Jackson counties. They were kind and indulgent parents, and obliging neighbors. To know them was to love and respect them.

They were earnest, consecrated Christians, holding their membership with the church at Friendship. The last work that Uncle Robert did was to visit the sick in the neighborhood. On returning, he was taken sick, and lingering but a few days, died March 19, 1891. After his death, Polly sickened and died March 22, 1891. So after 51 years of companionship in this life, they have gone where parting will be not more.

* This is an error. Samuel died of diarrhea at Marietta, Georgia while serving in Company A of the 81st Illinois Infantry - according to military records.
